Description: This GIS map service provides the locations of Transient Non-Community (TNC) drinking water systems across Maryland. The TNCs are defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as drinking water systems that are not a community water system across an area, but contained on the property where they are located, primarily for a specific building/facility. The TNC regularly serve 25 or more people each day, but not the same people every day. This type of system can be found at gas stations, churches, restaurants, campgrounds, and other like facilities where people do not remain for long periods of time.Note - The spatial locations of the TNC water systems were derived from the street address for that site and do not represent the actual location of the water system's infrastructure. The data fields within this GIS data layer are as follows:Public Water system Identification (PWSID):The PWSID is a unique number used to identify water systems within a specific state.System Name:This is the name of the water system.Water Source Description:This column identifies the primary source of the water used by the water system:GW: Groundwater.GWP: Groundwater purchased.SW: Surface water.SWP: Surface water purchased.GU: Groundwater under influence of surface water.GUP: Purchased groundwater under influence of surface water source.County:Name of the county in which the water system is located.Data Source:This field lists the origin of the displayed water system locations and data:MDE: Internal files.Water System: File provided by system.County GIS: County provided GIS layers.County W&S: Water & Sewer Plan Maps.SDWIS: Information from State database.

This type of system can be found at schools, daycare centers, manufacturers, hospitals or nursing homes, office buildings, and other facilities.Note - The spatial locations of the NTNC water systems were derived from the street address for that site and do not represent the actual location of the water system's infrastructure. Description: This is a GIS map service of the Community Water Systems (CWS) of the service area boundaries for all active CWS's in Maryland, A CWS is defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a public water system provides water for human consumption through pipes or other constructed conveyances to at least 15 service connections or serves an average of at least 25 people for at least 60 days a year. A public water system may be a publicly or privately owned.Public Water system Identification (PWSID): The PWSID is a unique number used to identify water systems within a specific state.System Name:This is the name of the water system. Provider Description: This column identifies the ownership of the water system by one of the following: Federal: Owned by the federal government.Mixed (Public/Private): Owned by both private owner and public (local, state, federal).Private: Owned by a private entity.Local: Owned by a municipality.State: Owned by the state of Maryland (via a state agency).Water Source Description: This column identifies the primary source of the water:GW: Groundwater.GWP: Groundwater purchased.SW: Surface water.SWP: Surface water purchased.GU: Groundwater under influence of surface water.GUP: Purchased groundwater under influence of surface water source.County:Name of the county in which the water system is located.Date:This is the year the files and maps used to delineate the service area of the CWS.
