Description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV>This is a GIS map service of the Community Water Systems (CWS) of the service area boundaries for all active CWS's in Maryland, A CWS is defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a public water system provides water for human consumption through pipes or other constructed conveyances to at least 15 service connections or serves an average of at least 25 people for at least 60 days a year. A public water system may be a publicly or privately owned.Public Water system Identification (PWSID):<UL><LI> The PWSID is a unique number used to identify water systems within a specific state.</LI></UL>System Name:<UL><LI>This is the name of the water system. </LI></UL>Provider Description: This column identifies the ownership of the water system by one of the following: <UL><LI>Federal: Owned by the federal government.</LI><LI>Mixed (Public/Private): Owned by both private owner and public (local, state, federal).</LI><LI>Private: Owned by a private entity.</LI><LI>Local: Owned by a municipality.</LI><LI>State: Owned by the state of Maryland (via a state agency).</LI></UL>Water Source Description: This column identifies the primary source of the water:<UL><LI>GW: Groundwater.</LI><LI>GWP: Groundwater purchased.</LI><LI>SW: Surface water.</LI><LI>SWP: Surface water purchased.</LI><LI>GU: Groundwater under influence of surface water.</LI><LI>GUP: Purchased groundwater under influence of surface water source.</LI></UL>County:Name of the county in which the water system is located.Date:This is the year the files and maps used to delineate the service area of the CWS. Data Source:This field lists the origin of the displayed system area:<UL><LI>MDE: Internal files.</LI><LI>Water System: File provided by system.</LI><LI>County GIS: County provide GIS layers.</LI><LI>County W&S: Water & Sewer Plan Maps.</LI><LI>SDWIS: Information from State database.</LI></UL>Consumer Confidence Report:This field has the link to the "Annual Drinking Water Quality Report" for each water system.
